Who we are?
Government Innovation Lab (GIL) is housed at University of Balochistan, which is an initiative of P&DD, GoB and supported by UNDP.Government Innovation Lab launched in May 2019, initiated first cohort in August 2019. GIL aims to help government departments to improve service delivery and governance through innovative solution through agile methodology and citizen centric approach.

With immense pleasure, I appreciate the Planning & Development Department for establishing the Government Innovation Lab at the University of Balochistan and making it a big success by triggering innovation at grass root level. GIL is aligned with the vision of the Government for youth empowerment. With our digital skills and information technology sector inching up we will be able to achieve the highest sustainable economic growth, employment, and a rising standard of living while maintaining financial stability
GIL is an output for the aims and goals of durable development so that we can move towards accelerated development by introducing innovative solutions. Since we have to fulfil the commitment of SDGs and also want to accelerate sustainably towards our own development goals, we need a lab. I foresee GIL as a very good institute.
GIL emerged from the ideas of SDGs. UNDP has done such programs in many other parts of the country as well. We have realized that academia is one of the important stakeholders in all the development debate. Since we have demonstrated this, government is also very happy and convinced to see that it is a success story.
It is a new thing and first time implemented in Balochistan, in which young fellows have really worked hard which is great. In future it will be very helpful for us. Departments will also get benefits and make less efforts by using the system as they will directly access the information.
We felt the need how can academia help government and the society in SDGs for its purpose. We understood and believe that sustainable developments is not possible if you don’t develop the people and the youth so we tried to create a youth inclusive environment with the help of UNDP and Planning and Development Department Government of Balochistan so we established GIL at University of Balochistan to support youth by means of providing them financial support and as well as mentorship, and training to help the aligned departments.
SDGs are an ambitious agenda at the same it is a feasible agenda but to implement this, UNDP in Balochistan as well as at the country level is endeavoring to mainstream SDGs accelerate progress on SGDs and provide policy support for the smooth execution of SDGs in Pakistan and Balochistan.
